The Department of English is offering a range of AHRC and Queen
MaryPrincipal's Studentships for entry to its PhD programme in September2013 to
candidates
wishing to develop a PhD in any area of theDepartment's research
expertise.English at Queen MaryThe Department is widely recognized
as one of the country's leadingcentres for literary research and English
studies. The research andteaching interests of our staff span a wide range
of periods from theclassical to the contemporary, and we have an
international reputationfor our pioneering interdisciplinary and
collaborative work attractingpostgraduate students from all over the world.
We have specialists whocan offer supervision in the following periods of
study: Classical andMedieval, Renaissance and Early Modern, Eighteenth
Century andRomanticism, Nineteenth-Century Studies, Modern and Contemporary
andPostcolonial. Many of the Department's staff are known
internationallyfor their work. They bring to their teaching and project
supervisionexpertise in the most recent developments in research
methodologiesand an awareness of current directions in research. We have a
largethriving graduate community with a significant number of PhD
projectssupported by AHRC and Queen Mary awards.
The AwardsQueen
Mary Principal's Studentships are open to suitably qualifiedcandidates from
the UK, EU and Overseas. The Studentship comprises ofthe full cost of (home
or overseas) fees and 15,590 a year formaintenance for 3 years for
London-based students.
AHRC Studentships are open to suitably qualified
candidates from theUK and EU. The Studentship comprises of the full cost of
fees and15,590 a year for maintenance for 3 years for London-based

DeadlineThe deadline is 5 pm on
Thursday 31 January 2013. All short-listedapplicants will be
interviewed (either face-to-face or, in the case ofoverseas candidates, by
telephone or skype) and applicants must beavailable for interview in the
middle of February 2013
