Mobile Cellphone Info has posted a new item, 'Review: HTC One X LTE'
The march of the HTC One line of devices continues, as AT&T prepares to deliver
their next LTE phone. The HTC One X on AT&T is a little different from the HTC
One X that was released in the UK not too long ago, swapping out the Nvidia
Tegra 3 chipset for the LTE-supporting Snapdragon S4. On the inside weve got a
pretty different phone now with a new set of expectations to meet, and some big
shoes to fill as the flagship HTC device on AT&T. Hardware The HTC One X is a
striking array of sharp lines and interesting textures. From the smooth glass
surface on the front of the phone to the matte polycarbonate surface on the back
with glossy transitions on the edges of the polycarbonate casing, the phone is
pleasing to just hold in your hand and run your fingers across. In line with
HTCs more recent designs, the back of the phone is actually slightly larger than
the front of the phone, causing the edge of the phone to taper in as it reaches
the other side. The microphone jack and the power adapter are the only open
holes along the sides of the phone, and each are well placed at the top of the
device. The downside to tapering your sides is the effect on the side buttons.
While the volume rocker isnt particularly hard for me to hit, the power button
is far more difficult to hit when holding the phone with one hand. For all of
the simple elegance that found its way into the design of the case, the camera
slowly climbs out of the back of the phone until I am intentionally overcareful
when I set the phone down on the back. When you set the phone down, it is clear
that the phone props up the back of the phone. I do not hold out a lot of hope
for the survival of the camera lens on this phone, at least without a case. The
AT&T variant of the HTC One X has had the Tegra 3 replaced with the dual-core
Qualcomm Snapdragon S4. This decision wasnt met with rounds of applause, as you
can imagine, but the Snapdragon S4 is no slouch. Despite being a dual-core
processor, the Snapdragon S4 delivers the same user experience. Benchmarks
reveal that the two processors perform on par with each other, and the Nvidia
chipset wasnt able to deliver any better graphics quality in either real world
usage or benchmarks. The only way that the Tegra 3 could be considered superior
in is the fifth or companion core. In theory, the Tegra 3 should deliver longer
battery life in inactive situations, for instance when the device is by your bed
at night. In normal daily use, however, the UK version and the US version of the
One X will perform similarly. Battery Life Like every other 4G LTE phone out
there, the 1800 mAh battery built into the One X is only barely enough to get
you through an 8 hour day. The exchange rate for blazing fast speeds and battery
life are still very much at play here. If you are intentionally careful with the
device, youll get 10 hours of use out of it. Unfortunately, you wont be packing
extra batteries for the One X, since the battery is not removable. If you are
connected to WiFi or in what AT&T calls a 4G network, and not an LTE network,
you will obviously get far better battery life. Connecting to WiFi will get you
about 18 hours of battery life. Even with LTE on, the One X rests very well,
draining very little battery when kept off the charger overnight. Screen It is
not easy to compete in the screen arena right now. Apples Retina screen and
Samsungs Super Amoled+ screens are tough acts to follow. The HTC One X screen is
a 720 x 1280 Super IPS LCD2 screen, and aside from winning the title of longest
name for a screen it certainly gives the competition a run for their money. If
it were possible to offer a balance between the intense colors and deep blacks
of a Samsung screen and the crystal clarity of the iPhone Retina screen, HTC has
got it nailed. Colors show up great, but not overpowering, while text is easy to
read even at a distance. The 4.7-inch screen is great for watching videos as
well, giving you plenty of screen real estate to catch a movie on.
Unfortunately, the LCD screen doesnt perform quite as well as Samsung screens
outdoors. When in direct sunlight, the phone is all but unusable. This is often
a problem with LCD displays, since the backlight needed in order for them to
compete with the sun would ruin battery life entirely. Even when being used in a
car dock, if the sun catches your screen youll lose whatever it is you were
doing on the screen until the sun goes away. HTC One X - HDR - Click to see
original Camera Of all the smartphone manufacturers out there right now, HTC is
clearly focused on making the cameras on their new devices the best. With the
One X it shows. The backlit sensor on the HTC One X makes taking any kind of
picture incredibly nice, and the marriage of HTCs software and the Android 4.0
camera software make for a really great photography experience. The One X could
easily replace your point-and-shoot for any picture that didnt require an
optical zoom. The camera app was designed for quick photos, and comes with
plenty of settings to make your pictures even better. The camera app even does a
great job with HDR shots. When not taking pictures, the camcorder function has
grown a few new settings as well. You can record something in slow motion, or
take pictures while you record video, and everything happens in a snap with the
zero shutter time capabilities of the camera. No other smartphone right now is
able to do what HTC is doing with their cameras right now, and that will
continue to give them a very serious edge moving forward. HTC and AT&T Like all
of the HTC One devices, the X is running HTC Sense 4 which is based on Android
4.0. HTC has kept the AT&T version of the OS fairly similar to the rest of the
One line, but there are some subtle differences. AT&Ts suite of Android apps,
such as the barcode scanner, Navigation, and AT&T U-Verse TV. Curiously, in
exchange for that AT&T apps, some of the HTC embedded apps are missing. For
example, one of my favorite HTC apps is the flashlight app which allows me to
use the camera flash as a small flashlight. The App is nowhere to be seen on the
phone, and is very clearly on the HTC One S we recently reviewed. Even the UK
version of the One X has the flashlight app. Another oddity of the software on
the HTC One X is the functionality of the NFC chip on the device. When you turn
NFC on, you are able to use NFC tags, and any third party app you install has
the ability to write to NFC tags, but for some reason the device is not
supported by Google Wallet. When you search for Wallet in the Play Store, you
are allowed to install it, but when Wallet activates you are prompted with a
warning that your carrier or manufacturer are not currently supported. Theres no
further information available from Google, HTC, or AT&T at the moment on whether
or not this will become available in the future. Final Thoughts The One X is a
big phone. Most people will want to use two hands when handling it, as its size
exists between the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy Note. The Galaxy Nexus is just
barely comfortable in my hand, and the power button placement on the Nexus has a
lot to do with that. You basically have to choke up on the phone when you want
to use the power button, or use your other hand to turn the phone on and off. If
you can get past the fact that you will probably need two hands for this phone,
the One X is a pretty great phone. The phone absolutely ties the Galaxy Note for
the title of best Android phone on AT&T right now, but doesnt jump out as being
the best hands down. Hopefully AT&T and Google will get Wallet on the phone
shortly, and I wouldnt be caught without a case to protect that camera, but
theres no denying that the HTC One X is a very fast, very powerful handset.

even further. To help you become an iPad master, we've compiled a handy list of
tips and tricks for new iPad users. Read on if you want to learn how to
multitask, take screenshots, encrypt your backups and more. Set the iPad to
self-destruct in 10 seconds: Okay, not really--but you can set the iPad to erase
all data after ten failed passcode entry attempts by checking the Erase Data
option under Settings, General, Passcode Lock. Don't let AutoCorrect mess you
up: If you don't like the option AutoCorrect gives you, reject it by finishing
the word as you prefer, and then tapping the suggestion. If you want to use
AutoCorrect's choice, just type a space or punctuation mark, or tap Return, the
moment it pops up. Create custom shortcuts for common phrases: Make AutoCorrect
work for you by teaching iOS to transform shorthand (such as "omw") into common
phrases (like "on my way") using iOS 5 shortcuts. Simply navigate to Settings,
General, Keyboard, and select Add New Shortcut. Type the phrase you want to

your backups: You can encrypt your iPad's backup data in iTunes. Just open the

Options heading. Swap the search engine: Too cool for Google? You can change
Safari's default search engine by going to Settings, Safari, Search Engine.
Alas, you can choose only from Google, Bing, or Yahoo--no vintage Metacrawler
for you. Take a screenshot of whatever is on the screen: Press the Home button
and the sleep/wake button simultaneously. The screenshot will automatically
appear among your photos. Selectively prevent automatic sync: Sometimes you
don't want to sync your iPad when you connect it to your computer. In that case,
hold down Shift-Ctrl (or Command-Option, on a Mac) in iTunes while plugging your
iPad in, and iTunes will skip the automatic sync just this once. Alternatively,
you can safely interrupt a sync by dragging the unlock slider on your device
while the iPad is midsync. Toggle 3G/LTE data roaming: If you're using a 3G
iPad, you can turn data roaming on in the Settings, Cellular Data menu in case
you want to try receiving cellular Internet through a different provider (fees
may apply). You can also disable LTE service if you're trying to conserve
bandwidth, and you can check your data usage by going to Settings, General,
Usage. Restrict mature content: Go to Settings, General, Restrictions and tap
Enable Restrictions to selectively apply controls on your apps, content, Game
Center, and more. You can use this setting to limit mature content on your new
iPad by disabling explicit-language recognition, blocking podcasts that have the
"Explicit" tag, or blocking movies, TV shows, and apps that are rated for mature
audiences. Make your passcode more complicated: iOS defaults to a four-number
passcode, but you can turn it off by going to Settings, General, Passcode Lock,
Simple Passcode. Now you can use any full keyboard password to lock the iPad.
The password also helps to encrypt your mail and attachments on the iPad, so you
probably want to make it safer than a four-digit number. Tweak AutoFill: You can
choose to enable Safari's AutoFill feature under Settings, Safari, AutoFill.
From there you can tell Safari to fill out forms automatically, either by using

from previous website login sessions. Sync your bookmarks: You can use iTunes to
sync your iPad's Safari bookmarks with your PC's Web browser. Open the iPad tab
in iTunes, click the Info tab, scroll down to the Other heading, check Sync
bookmarks with, and choose your preferred browser. Email photos: The easiest way
to email photos from an iPad is to open the Photos app, select a photo, press

with friends: Listening to a podcast that you think a friend would like? You can
share the link while you're listening to it by pressing the Email button while
it's open. Don't forget your downloads: You can immediately see if your iTunes
account is due for incoming downloads by opening iTunes on your PC, clicking the
Store menu, and selecting Check for available downloads. This trick can come in
handy if your download process is interrupted, or if you missed some bonus
iTunes content that came with an album you purchased. Turn on Universal Access:
You can enable options such as closed-captioned movies, VoiceOver screen
reading, zoom magnification, and inverted white-on-black text by selecting the
iPad in iTunes, opening the Summary tab, and clicking Configure Universal Access
under the Options heading. Forget Wi-Fi networks: So you accidentally connected
to a network once, and your iPad remembers it for life--whether you like it or
not. On your iPad, go to Settings, Wi-Fi, and find the network under the 'Choose
a Network' heading. Tap the blue arrow next to the network you want to remove,
and tap the button on the top that says Forget this Network. Customize your
Spotlight searches: The iPad uses Spotlight for its built-in search functions,
and you can tweak it to your needs under Settings, General, Spotlight Search. If
you have a lot of data on your iPad, for example, you can selectively disable
search in different categories (Contacts, Applications, Audiobooks, Notes,
Events, Mail, and so on) that you don't use so that your desired results show up
faster. You can also simply change the order in which the search-result
categories display by dragging them up and down, so that your more frequently
used search categories appear at the top of the page. Turn off in-app purchases:
Go to Settings, General, Restrictions and tap Enable Restrictions to selectively
enable restrictions for your apps, content, Game Center, and more. If you're
worried about other people breaking your bank account on in-app purchases, just
disable In-App Purchases under the 'Allowed Content' setting. Switch up the
fetching frequency: Your iPad automatically grabs new data, such as incoming
email. However, the iPad also periodically activates apps that don't support

You know that your new iPad will let you easily watch movies, browse the
Internet, or play games on the go, but there are many advanced features hidden
beneath the surface of iOS that can improve your tablet computing experience
even further. To help you become an iPad master, we've compiled a handy list of
tips and tricks for new iPad users. Read on if you want to learn how to
multitask, take screenshots, encrypt your backups and more. Set the iPad to
self-destruct in 10 seconds: Okay, not really--but you can set the iPad to erase
all data after ten failed passcode entry attempts by checking the Erase Data
option under Settings, General, Passcode Lock. Don't let AutoCorrect mess you
up: If you don't like the option AutoCorrect gives you, reject it by finishing
the word as you prefer, and then tapping the suggestion. If you want to use
AutoCorrect's choice, just type a space or punctuation mark, or tap Return, the
moment it pops up. Create custom shortcuts for common phrases: Make AutoCorrect
work for you by teaching iOS to transform shorthand (such as "omw") into common
phrases (like "on my way") using iOS 5 shortcuts. Simply navigate to Settings,
General, Keyboard, and select Add New Shortcut. Type the phrase you want to
shorten in the Phrase field, and then type the shortened version you want to use
in the Shortcut field. Download the free iPad User's Guide: You may have noticed
that your iPad didn't come with a big printed manual--that's not Apple's style.
However, you can download the PDF version of the iPad User's Guide from Apple's
website, or you can read it in iBooks if you have that installed (iBooks is
available as a free download in the App Store). Make sure to download the manual
for the version of iOS you're currently using! Use the Side Switch: You can use
the switch on the side either to enable and disable audio alerts (this doesn't
affect video/audio playback) or to lock the screen's orientation in portrait or
landscape mode. You can toggle which function is assigned to the switch by
opening Settings from the home screen, selecting General, and choosing the
function you want under the 'Use Side Switch to' heading. Take a free guided
tour: Apple provides video tutorials on setting up iTunes, as well as a complete
rundown of all your preinstalled apps so that you can get a good look at how to
use them. Speed up your sentences: Double-tapping the spacebar while typing a
message will type a period and a space. Multitask in iOS: You probably already
know that you can press the Home button twice to bring up a list of currently
running or suspended apps. However, you can also swipe the multitasking bar left
to right to quickly access audio/video playback controls, a shortcut to the
iTunes app itself, an AirPlay button that lets you wirelessly mirror the iPad
display on an Apple TV, and volume controls. Also, when you choose whether the
Side Switch should mute alert sounds or lock the screen orientation (see the tip
above), the function you didn't choose will appear in this shortcut bar. Secure
your backups: You can encrypt your iPad's backup data in iTunes. Just open the
iPad in iTunes, click the Summary tab, and check Encrypt iPad backup under the
Options heading. Swap the search engine: Too cool for Google? You can change
Safari's default search engine by going to Settings, Safari, Search Engine.
Alas, you can choose only from Google, Bing, or Yahoo--no vintage Metacrawler
for you. Take a screenshot of whatever is on the screen: Press the Home button
and the sleep/wake button simultaneously. The screenshot will automatically
appear among your photos. Selectively prevent automatic sync: Sometimes you
don't want to sync your iPad when you connect it to your computer. In that case,
hold down Shift-Ctrl (or Command-Option, on a Mac) in iTunes while plugging your
iPad in, and iTunes will skip the automatic sync just this once. Alternatively,
you can safely interrupt a sync by dragging the unlock slider on your device
while the iPad is midsync. Toggle 3G/LTE data roaming: If you're using a 3G
iPad, you can turn data roaming on in the Settings, Cellular Data menu in case
you want to try receiving cellular Internet through a different provider (fees
may apply). You can also disable LTE service if you're trying to conserve
bandwidth, and you can check your data usage by going to Settings, General,
Usage. Restrict mature content: Go to Settings, General, Restrictions and tap
Enable Restrictions to selectively apply controls on your apps, content, Game
Center, and more. You can use this setting to limit mature content on your new
iPad by disabling explicit-language recognition, blocking podcasts that have the
"Explicit" tag, or blocking movies, TV shows, and apps that are rated for mature
audiences. Make your passcode more complicated: iOS defaults to a four-number
passcode, but you can turn it off by going to Settings, General, Passcode Lock,
Simple Passcode. Now you can use any full keyboard password to lock the iPad.
The password also helps to encrypt your mail and attachments on the iPad, so you
probably want to make it safer than a four-digit number. Tweak AutoFill: You can
choose to enable Safari's AutoFill feature under Settings, Safari, AutoFill.
From there you can tell Safari to fill out forms automatically, either by using
your specified contact information or by remembering the names and passwords
from previous website login sessions. Sync your bookmarks: You can use iTunes to

from the plans alreadyannounced in Kolkata, Airtel today announced a new plan
that will offer users 30GB of data for Rs 2,999 a month. Users of both Rs 1,999
plan (18GB) and Rs 2,999 will get a cash back offer when they purchase either
the multi-mode LTE modem (Rs 7,999) or the indoor CPE with Wi-Fi module (Rs
7,750).
Airtel will also offer 10 free movies for the first month and users can pay Rs
149 a month to watch unlimited movies. The carrier currently has a catalog of 35
movies and is promising to add more. It has also introduced Smartbytes to add
more data when the user has run out of the monthly data limit. However, Airtel
is yet to offer details about top-up plans and charges.
Subscribers of Rs 1,999 postpaid plan will get a discount of Rs 333 every month
for 24 months, while those on Rs 2,999 plan will get a discount of Rs 666 every
month for 12 months to pay back the subscribers for their LTE dongle or indoor
CPE with Wi-Fi module.
Users can now also top-up their accounts when they exhaust their monthly data
quota. Here are all the data plans and top-up options.
