| Today is Diwali, "the Festival of Lights" celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains in India and all over the world. Diwali celebrates the victory of Good over Evil and Light over Darkness. That's why It's a Girl is commemorating this special day by shedding light on one of our generation's gravest injustices: female gendercide. This Diwali we're fighting for girls like Karishma, who face deadly gender discrimination on a daily basis. When Karishma was born in 2008, her paternal grandmother angrily announced, "A girl! I am going to put salt in her mouth and kill her!" After that, Karishma's mother had to protect her newborn daughter by carrying her everywhere in a sling on her back. In the giving spirit of Diwali, we ask that you join us in supporting the Invisible Girl Project's work to increase the perceived value of girls like Karishma in Indian culture. Whether you can spare just $10 or $1,000 - every gift enables Invisible Girl Project to expand its mission to rescue and save newborn baby girls. Click here to learn how your donation can help. |
