| In just over a week we have reached over 120,000 signatures! We're simply blown away by how much support we're getting for our campaign to end gendercide, but we must keep the momentum going. Reports of the systemic and mass-scale violence against Indian women and girls continue to make their way into local and international media. Last week, Satyam Yadav, a 26-year-old Congress councilor from West Delhi, strangled her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter before killing herself because she faced extreme dowry harassment and abuse. Her in-laws were demanding that her impoverished family pay an impossible amount of Rs 10 lakh (U.S. $20,000) in addition to a Honda City car. Police are calling Satyam's suicide a "dowry death". Sadly, her case is not unique. Satyam is merely one more victim of India's war on women. Keep inviting your friends to sign the petition demanding that the Indian government take immediate action to enforce existing laws against gendercide, create a rapid action task force to protect little girls, and make hospitals, government offices, and law enforcement agencies accountable for preventing this horrible crime. |
