Pearls in Peril: Securing the future of freshwater pearl mussel in
Great Britain


Position:

This post, based in Beauly with the Ness and Beauly Fisheries Trust,
but employed by Rivers and Fisheries Trusts of Scotland (RAFTS) will
work across Scotland's freshwater pearl mussel Special Areas of
Conservation, to establish 'river-watch' schemes to help protect
freshwater pearl mussels from criminal activity. These schemes
will integrate with local fishery protection and management schemes and
be promoted locally to secure support. You will visit sites to
gather field evidence of criminal activity and provide information to
the National Wildlife Crime Unit building strong relations with this
group. This post will make a strong practical contribution to help
protect Scotland's freshwater pearl mussels and ensure their sustainable
future.

Supported by the Ness and Beauly Fisheries Trust and RAFTS you will
build relationships with our members and land managers as you establish
river-watch schemes which help ensure the success of the project.


A salary of 19,629 (pro-rata) is anticipated.

You:

You are enthusiastic and dynamic and want to make a difference to the
conservation, management and protection of Scotlands water environments
and freshwater pearl mussel populations. You have excellent
experience in working with land managers, conservation bodies and the
public. You understand practical conservation projects and the need to
protect important natural resources and species through both effective
community and public engagement and support and by regulatory and
policing activities. You have excellent communication skills and use
these to secure support and commitment in others, are organised and
flexible, have good basic computer skills and want to contribute to
wider project activities.
